Hip Hop Producer 9th Wonder is being inducted into North Carolina’s Music Hall of Fame. 9th Wonder has produced tracks for JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, Nipsey Hussle, Chris Brown, and many more during his career. 9th was also a member of the Hip Hop group Little Brother.
He is quoted saying
“It means more to me that the culture is represented than that a I’m being recognized,” Douthit said in an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal. “It’s something that can be recognized in our state history.”
“Some of us can walk into museums and not relate to what’s there, but, now, if a kid who is making beats on his laptop walks into the N.C. Music Hall of Fame Museum and sees my picture, then he can say, ‘Maybe I can do that.’
“In the ’80s and ’90s, hip-hop artists made beats in the studio using hardware. The way I started was on a laptop, making beats in my bedroom using software. At the time, it was unheard of to use that platform. Now that’s the norm,”
Ceremony to be held in October, also inducted Big Daddy Kane, Mitch Easter, Merle Watson, and Elizabeth Cotton.
